The Mount Rinjani 2-day/1-night Summit trek kicks off from Sembalun Village at 969m altitude. Trek for about 2 hours to reach “Pos 1” or “Pemantuan” at 1300m altitude, where you can rest for 15-20 minutes, enjoying refreshments and snacks. Continue for an additional hour to “Pos 2” or “Tengengean” at 1500m altitude, with another short break.
Another hour of trekking brings you to “Pos 3” or “Pada Balong” at 1800m altitude, marking a 1-hour lunch break. Marvel at the nutritious hot meal, tea, and coffee prepared by our dedicated porters and guides. Commence the challenging ascent to Sembalun Crater Rim campsite, a steep climb lasting around 3 hours. Enjoy impromptu rest points for hydration and snacks along the way. Sembalun Crater Rim campsite, situated at approximately 2684m elevation, offers spectacular views of Mount Rinjani’s Summit, Lake Segara Anak, and the active volcano, Mt Barujari.
Once at the campsite, your guide and porters set up tents and prepare a delicious hot dinner, accommodating various dietary restrictions. Utilize this time to relax, admire the view with a hot drink, take photos, and explore the ridgeline. After dinner, prepare for an early night as you gear up for the summit trek at 2 am, ensuring a good night’s rest with comfortable mattresses and high-quality tents.
Day 2 – Summit Climb & Return
Commence your second day at 2 am with a light breakfast and a hot drink. Depart from the Sembalun Crater Rim campsite at 2:30 am, initiating the trek to Mt Rinjani Summit. The challenging 3-4-hour ascent involves steep and often soft terrain, requiring appropriate clothing layers and mandatory warm hat, beanie, and gloves.
Reach the summit at 5:30-6:00 am, just in time to witness the sunrise over Lombok. Marvel at exceptional views, capturing photos with guides and fellow hikers. Follow a 2-hour descent back to Sembalun Crater Rim campsite for brunch, prepared by your waiting porters.
Trek back to Sembalun Village via the same route in reverse, taking approximately 5-6 hours. Exercise caution during the downhill sections, using trekking poles (available for borrowing). Regular breaks for rest, re-hydration, and a hot lunch during the descent are included.
